Why we print the date beside every number
A figure without a date is a guess. Here is the rule we use on our own site, and why investors notice it.
Most startup sites carry numbers that were true once. Customers, revenue, team size. Nobody says when.
We put the month and the source next to every figure we publish. If we cannot say where a number came from, we leave the slot empty.
It costs us a little impact on the page. It saves us a difficult question in every investor meeting.
